Raising money for Oz Harvest

With your help, at Ignite Sydney 8 we raised a fantastic amount of money for local charity Oz Harvest, who rescue food which would otherwise go to waste and distribute it to people in need.

Here’s the breakdown of fees* and funds:

Thanks again for your support for such a worthy local cause.

*Fees are charged by EventBrite for credit card processing as a percentage of every ticket sale. Whilst it’s a annoying to lose so much in processing fees, we feel that this is more than offset by the increased overall funds which we’re able to raise. Since we started selling tickets via credit card payment online, the amount raised for Oz Harvest has roughly doubled per event, even including the fees. We’d love to hear from you if you have any ideas on how we can pass more of the funds directly to Oz Harvest.

If I understand correctly, Eventbrite charges per ticket plus processing fees depending on payment method. You could skip at least the per ticket fee by using Meetup but then only PayPal and Amazon Payments is available

Thanks for the comments. Meetup is fine for geeks, but is an additional barrier for non-technical people – same with PayPal and Amazon payments.

EventBrite has a great iPhone app which allows us to check people in quickly and without paper, so the entire ticketing process is painless. The fees are around $1.50 per person, which is reasonable when you consider the ease-of-use for everyone involved.

The ultimate would be for a payment-collecting company to donate their services….
