We need your feedback
We always planned for Ignite Sydney to be hot – we just didn’t mean literally….
What did you like, and what could we have done differently? Please leave a comment below to let us know how we did, and we’ll use your feedback to help improve the next event. For starters, we’ll find a place with a working AC….
Congratulations to every one of the speakers, who all gave fantastic presentations which exceeded all of our expectations.
There’s a bit of feedback on Twitter, but please also comment below.

Definitely need a better venue with working air conditioning…
Loved all the presenters!
Hi Guys
An excellent night filled with fun and laughter
My feedback would be:
1. Reduce the number of speakers to 7 and have it in one session rather than 2
A lot of people left, so the 2nd lot got less votes. There will always be people who are time-challenged, especially those (myself included) with young kids/families
2. Still have a break for networking purposes. 20 minutes max
3. Have gifts/give-aways at the end
4. Definitely, find a place with air-con

Some thoughts…
1) Print up a list of speaker name, topic and voting number and the sms number. Put a few copies on the walls around the room for people who had their hands full when the number got flashed up on screen. Lots of people were mumbling “what was that number?” through their nibblies.
2) The first block of speakers did have longer to gain votes; a few people observed that speaking early gave you an advantage. Potentially the voting could be held until the end; but you’d have to remind everyone what the topics were. Or, voting for the first group could be stopped once the second block started. There probably isn’t a perfect system though. I’m not sure showing the names helps though, it probably skewed people to voting for the leaders.
3) It might work better to do all the giveaways in a block at the end, especially if you want people to do stuff to win stuff.
4) Liked the mix of speaker topics, not to mention bonus beatboxing
I think some of the lower speaker scores don’t really reflect how enjoyable their pressos were.
5) Some speakers seemed to use animations to bend the “one slide” rule – unless that’s part of the rules?
Overall a good format and a nice vibe – really enjoyed it. I think a lot of people were a bit sapped by the heat though, which reduced the levels of enthusiasm.
After reading Ben’s comments, I’m wondering if you even need to vote for winners? All the speakers were brilliant, and I enjoyed them all, they were really high quality.
So do we need to vote on the “best” one? There were probably 5 or 6 that I thought were my favourite.
It’s nice to get audience participation, and a bit of healthy competition but I don’t know if there needed to be winners.
Just a thought…
I agree – all the talks were brilliant, so picking a winner is irrelevant.
Re: Ben’s point about bending the rules – I wasn’t too stressed with how people built their slides, since everyone abided by the spirit of the event.
The important thing is that the slides and talks have to be interesting – no arguments there!
Over all a wonderful first effort.
I was not so bothered by the two part format of the evening, but perhaps starting a little earlier would assist those with commitments … or perhaps a Friday night ??
Presenters did a wonderful job with what is a new format for some.
Aircon should not be an issue with that venue in May.
Look forward to the next one and am already wondering what I could talk on.

Great effort… I expect you’ll get the A/C sorted out before the next one.
I think the time was right.. any earlier and it would have been trickier to get there on time.
Would be good to have more seating.. especially near the front, so it’s possible for everyone to see the screen better and not have to stand up for the whole time.
I agree with Cheryl and Stephen that the voting is not very useful, you’d do better to just let everyone present and listen to post-talk chatter / applause for an idea of what appealed to people.
It went really well, Campaign Monitor was glad to be involved and I personally learned a few things from the talk. Including that Americans can fit a lot more words into 5 minutes than the Aussies

The talk feedback is valuable but it doesn’t have to be a vote. Perhaps people could SMS what they liked about presentations? Of course, they could also just talk face to face but I figure it’s good to provide as many channels as possible for expression
I had been looking forward to this for weeks but as I was riding to the venue, I got hit by a car and broke my leg – dammit !!!
I would LOVE to see videos of the the presentations PLEASE !
Damn, that is bad luck!
We’re working on putting together some videos of the presentations, so stay tuned. And good luck in the recovery….
